Madison Community Church: A.D. – A Musical for Easter and Beyond

Madison Community Church: A.D. – A Musical for Easter and Beyond

On April 7 and 8, 2023, the Madison Community Seventh-Day Adventist Church presented, for their first time, “A.D., A Musical for Easter and Beyond” by Deborah Craig-Claar and Robert Sterling. The musical covers several events, not just during Easter week with the Crucifixion and Resurrection. It also covers the Ascension and the Book of Acts with the work of the early church including Stephen’s stoning and Saul’s conversion to Paul. The musical issues a bold call of faith to “Stand Strong” to the believers of today, in A.D. 2023.

We had a multi-generational and multi-ethnic cast which all felt blessed every time we practiced. One particular song, Paul’s solo entitled, “I Will Go,” inspires me to think about what Jesus has done for me. My response is, as the song says, “I will live for You alone because my life is not my own.”

A first-time cast member, with a large speaking part, was originally hesitant to participate because he had no prior experience. However, Pastor Rowell Puedivan assured him that the rehearsals and performances are really a way to worship and that God would help him. After the performances were concluded, this member excitedly told the pastor that indeed he did get closer to God over the two months of practice and was blessed to be part of the program.

Another first-time crew member commented on how meaningful the lyrics to the songs were, as well as beautiful music. Another example of how a music ministry can touch hearts.

We wanted the audience to be blessed and for them to benefit spiritually. One dad, who brought his children to the 11:00 am “contemporary” performance, came back again with his children for the 7:00 pm performance which included the traditional historical costumes.

Each time our church does a community event like this, we take up a free will offering to help the community.  This time we earmarked the donations to help single moms and single dads in need and struggling.

We feel blessed to be able to share the Gospel message with the community through this musical performance. To view our livestream videos, visit our YouTube channel or Facebook page.
