WINDY PLACES

Ministerial November 14, 2025

Someone told me years ago, “A vibrant spiritual life requires spending time in ‘windy places.‘” Simply put, “a windy place” is anywhere the wind of the Holy Spirit is likely to be blowing.

The windmill farm is a great metaphor for the Holy Spirit, as Jesus said in John 3:8. To preserve a healthy soul, one must know where the wind of the Holy Spirit is likely to blow and spend time in that place. This can be achieved through reading the Bible, prayer, participating in small groups, or sharing your faith with others. One of the most windy places for all Christians is spending time with Jesus at the beginning of each day, where they can experience the gale-force winds of the Spirit.

Ellen White describes this windy place well in the book Education. She says, “They (Christians) must give themselves time to think, to pray, to wait upon God for a renewal of physical, mental, and spiritual power. They need the uplifting influence of His Spirit…. Not a pause for a moment in His presence, but personal contact with Christ, to sit down in companionship with Him this is our need.” Education, pgs 260, 261.

What is our greatest need? “Not a pause for a moment in His presence, but personal contact with Christ, to sit down in companionship with Him.”
