Editor’s Note: Trim Your Lamps My Brethren Dear

Editor’s Note: Trim Your Lamps My Brethren Dear

I heard a hymn that was new to me at Pastor Justin Spady’s ordination last week, and instantly fell in love with it’s message. As the tune has been repeating again and again in my mind every day since, I’ve decided to commit the words to memory so it can minister to my soul. I hope the words reprinted here minister to you as well. You can find them in the Seventh-day Adventist Hymnal on page 595. I’ve also posted a link to the words with music so you can sing along if you wish. Hope it blesses you as much as it has me.

Let Every Lamp Be Burning Bright

1. Let every lamp be burning bright,
The darkest hour is nearing;
The darkest hour of earth’s long night,
Before the Lord’s appearing.

Refrain

2. Though thousands calmly slumber on,
The last great message spuring,
We’ll rest our living faith upon
His Promise of returning.

Refrain

3. His Word our lamp, His truth our guide,
We cannot be mistaken;
Though dangers rise on every side,
We shall not be forsaken.

Refrain

4. Then let good works with faith appear,
To help the world around us;
Obedience bring the blessing near
When faith has firmly bound us.

Refrain

Refrain:
Then trim your lamps, my brethren dear,
Then trim your lamps with godly fear;
The Master’s coming draweth near,
Let every lamp be burning.

Yes, earth’s darkest night will soon be here, but we can spend time in God’s word, which is our lamp, and keep His truth burning brightly through whatever night may come. Trim your lamps, my brethren and sisters dear!
