President’s Perspective: Trust

President’s Perspective: Trust

In just a few days I will climb aboard an airplane and fly for twelve hours covering over 6,000 miles, crossing 8 time zones.

I will be placing my trust in the pilots who fly the plane, the mechanics and ground crew who prepare the plane, and the traffic controllers who will direct the pilots across the Atlantic and Mediterranean. I am also placing my trust in those who years earlier designed and built the plane. I am willing to place not only my comfort, but my life in the hands of people I have never met, and who may be having a bad day.

I am puzzled that all too often I am more willing to place my life in the hands in fallible people than I am in the hands of an all-powerful and all-caring God. There is no better place to be than in the hands of a loving God. There is nothing that comes as a surprise to Him. He not only knows what will happen, but He will never allow anything to happen to us, that if we place our trust in Him, we cannot handle. If His eye is on the sparrow, I know He watches me.

May we each take the counsel of Solomon when he wrote “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.”
