In my devotional time this morning I read of Abraham, follower of God. Abraham was called to leave family, friends, and everything that was comfortable and become a nomad, following God, wherever He led. While many questions must have flooded Abraham’s mind, Ellen White says that “he did not hesitate to obey the call….God has spoken, and His servant must obey; the happiest place on earth for him was the place where God would have him be.”  PP 126.

What a testimony of faith. What a challenge to our own faith. If we are following God’s leading, wherever we are, we should be happy. Often our lives are unsettled as we think, “If only.”  If only I had more money. If only I didn’t have health issues. If only I had a different job, set of friends, or different circumstances…

But our expressions of dissatisfaction at where we are in life, is an admission that we don’t truly believe that God is guiding us, and that He somehow doesn’t have our best in mind.

God may have placed you in your particular work place for more than earning money for your family, but to be a witness to co-workers. God may have allowed health, or other trials, to come your way to “ripen you up for heaven” or to be an example of faith through trials.

The attitude of Abraham is reflected in the writings of Paul when he states “Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.”

May God stretch our faith so that can be our testimony today, and every day.
