Bluegrass Gospel Music Jam at Chippewa Valley Church

Local Church May 8, 2025

What do you get when you mix thirteen guitars, five fiddles, four bass fiddles, two mandolins, one banjo, one accordion, one harmonica, and one tambourine—played by about forty joyful musicians?

You get an unforgettable night of bluegrass gospel music—and a whole lot of smiles.

On April 5, 2025, the Chippewa Valley Seventh-day Adventist Church hosted the 6th and final session of its first annual Bluegrass Gospel Music Jam. Held the first Sabbath evening of each month from November through April, this event was the brainchild of George Cordwell and Kathy Beyreis. The duo, who had regularly attended Gospel Jams in other locations, knew that such an event would draw a large crowd of musicians and music lovers in the local area.

From New Jersey to the Midwest

George’s musical journey began when he and his sister formed their first group. He later became a member of The King’s Countrymen for over 22 years, performing bluegrass gospel music across Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Iowa. Over time, he built strong ties in the music community and participated in numerous local gospel jams.

Building a Tradition of Praise and Community

Each session opened with prayer and featured individual musicians or groups sharing their favorite gospel songs. As the months passed, the event grew steadily—welcoming over 100 attendees by the final gathering. Kathy helped ensure a warm, welcoming atmosphere with refreshments provided by church members.

A Grand Finale

The April jam concluded with prayer and a heartfelt sing-along of “Will the Circle Be Unbroken,” sending everyone home with full hearts and promises to return for more music and fellowship in the coming November.
