3ACS Students Participate in Letters Against Isolation

Education February 17, 2025

Service is an important component of our Seventh-day Adventist Schools. In Wisconsin, we call service activities Students Engaged for Eternity (S.E.E.) Activities.  We encourage teachers to engage in one to two service activities each month.  Those activities could be focused on local church family, the community, or the world.

Wisconsin teachers have been doing amazing S.E.E. Activities recently.  Vanessa Sloan, head teacher at Three Angels Christian School, discovered a wonderful S.E.E. Activity for her 6th-8th graders to participate in this year. One that she hopes to continue for many years into the future.  This project is called Letters Against Isolation.

The Letters Against Isolation project began during Covid, when two sisters realized that senior loneliness is a prevalent issue. It affects not only senior’s mental health but also their physical health, as well. They decided to spread some joy by writing handwritten letters to residents of assisted living facilities and care homes. When the growing demand for letters outpaced them, they started Letters Against Isolation, which has since expanded to serve thousands of seniors in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Australia.

As of late December 2024, Mrs. Sloan’s students have created a total of 78 cards for nursing home residents. Twenty of these cards were sent to residents in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and another 48, were delivered to residents in London, Kentucky. Additionally, Mrs. Sloan prepared Spanish cards for 10 residents in Henrico, Virginia.

Mrs. Sloan shares, “While we take joy in sharing these cards, we also recognize the personal growth we experience through this project. The cardmaking process has allowed us to connect with one another, fostering meaningful conversations and a sense of anticipation in bringing joy to those we reach.”

We would like to give a special thank you to both the students and our teacher at Three Angels Christian School for making a difference in our world and bringing joy to seniors.
