On the night of October 31, the United States celebrates a holiday in honor of the departed, mainly known as Halloween. During this feast, children visit houses shouting, “Trick or Treat” with the hope of receiving succulent treats and chocolate. However, on the Halloween night of 2009, a ten-year-old girl decided to give up treats, and dive into the baptismal waters. When most children were gathering sweets on the streets, Karina Martínez was giving her heart to Jesus.

Karina heard the gospel from a very young age. At the age of five, she was already accompanying her father to do Bible studies. Her faith in Jesus was further strengthened when she was involved in a car accident at age seven. Karina and her family were returning from a trip to Mexico. During the journey, she began to feel sleepy, and thus unfastened her seat belt to lie in the backseat. While Karina rested, the car they were traveling in overturned. Miraculously everyone survived the accident. Moreover, Karina woke up while her father unfastened her seat belt. Only an angel could have fasted her seat belt while she slept, hence
saving her life.

Ten years later since her baptism, Karina has set out to serve and help others through her nursing career. During her training, she discovered her passion for meeting and helping people. Above all, she has developed a great desire to make a difference in the lives of those she encounters. Currently, she is also serving within the Racine Hispanic Seventh-day Adventist Church, as a Sabbath School secretary. Karina is a very artistic young woman who distinguishes herself for creating banners by hand, which are used during evangelistic meetings, children’s events and even weddings. Each project undertaken is completed with great skill and diligence.

When asked for fun facts about her, Karina shares that her favorite character in the Bible is King David, her favorite hymn is Padre Amado, her favorite color is lilac, and her favorite food is pizza.

Since her childhood, Karina Martínez has witnessed the power of God to save and protect His children. The Christian education she has received at home, as well as the miraculous way in which she was saved during that fateful accident, gave her the maturity to accept Jesus as her Savior at the young age of ten. In addition to this, her shy nature has allowed her to develop a creativity and attention to detail that not many people possess, thus forging a promising future as a worker for Christ.

HISPANIC

En la noche del 31 de octubre, Estados Unidos celebra una festividad en honor a las brujas, conocido como Halloween o Noche de Brujas. Durante el festín, los niños visitan las casas gritando “Trick or Treat” con el deseo de recibir suculentos chocolates y golosinas. Sin embargo, en la Noche de Brujas del 2009, una niña de diez años decidió renunciar a las golosinas para sumergirse en las aguas bautismales. Cuando la mayoría de los niños exigían dulces en las calles, Karina Martínez le entregaba su corazón a Cristo.

Karina conoció el evangelio desde una edad muy temprana. A los cinco años ya acompañaba a su padre a realizar estudios bíblicos. Su fe en Jesús se afianzó aún más cuando a los siete años se vio envuelta en un accidente automovilístico. Karina y su familia regresaban de un viaje a México. Durante la travesía, ella comenzó a sentir sueño, y se desabrochó el cinturón de seguridad para poder recostarse en el asiento trasero. Mientras Karina reposaba, el carro en que viajaban se volcó.

Milagrosamente todos sobrevivieron al accidente. Y aún más sorprendente, Karina despertó mientras su padre le desabrochaba el cinturón de seguridad. Sólo un ángel pudo haberle colocado el cinturón de seguridad mientras ella dormía, salvándole así la vida.

Diez años después desde su bautismo, Karina se ha propuesto servir y ayudar a los demás a través de su carrera en enfermería. Durante su entrenamiento, descubrió que le apasiona conocer nuevas personas, auxiliarlas y principalmente, hacer una diferencia en la vida de aquellos que conoce. Actualmente, ella también sirve dentro de la iglesia como secretaria de Escuela Sabática.

Karina es una joven muy artística que se distingue por crear rótulos a mano, usados en campañas de evangelismo, eventos infantiles y hasta en bodas. Cada proyecto que ella emprende es desarrollado con gran habilidad y diligencia.

Al preguntarle sobre algunos datos curiosos sobre ella, Karina comparte que su personaje favorito de la biblia es el Rey David, su himno favorito es Padre Amado, su color favorito es el lila, y su comida favorita es la pizza.

Desde su infancia, Karina Martínez ha presenciado el poder de Dios para salvar y proteger a sus escogidos. La educación cristiana que recibió en el hogar, al igual que la milagrosa manera en que fue salvada de aquel fatídico accidente, le dieron la madurez para aceptar a Jesús como su salvador a la temprana edad de diez años. Además de esto, su personalidad introvertida le ha permitido desarrollar su creatividad y atención a los detalles, forjándose así un futuro prometedor como obrera de Cristo.
